I was looking forward to space where I could share opinions to questions about the first value- safety- I collected thus far via questionnaires. All became complete by co-creating with these answers. I continued collecting views and encouraged people to interact with the answers displayed in the installation by attaching elements I provided. As I intended, the exchange happened. People were taking in the answers that were given by others, now shared in this particular context. Then, they continue with giving their answers and opinions for others to take in. My role is to share these in as many ways as possible. The cycle becomes embedded in story creation through this tactile conversation. Getting to know what you think and others think, getting deep within to introspect and checking with yourself where you are at the moment. Even though I support the idea of minimising material possessions, I also recognise the power and value of second hand and antique. I met Doreen who loves old, she does not see things as objects, she sees them as subjects, they belonged to someone and they tell a story through what they are and who used it and can continue using it. I passed her shop on a few occasions but I was usually on a mission. On this occasion I had a bit of time and entered her shop (now online and she does boot sales). In one’s wildest dreams one would not find things she actually has in the shop. I talked to her about nature and ritual, and a connection between a heart-brain and the gut. I told her I would have a flowering ball tea available at my event. A combination of Lychee, jasmine, flower of calendula and green tea to invite harmony and tranquility. In no time she knew what types of cups would reflect my ideas. In this way we weaved stories together. Drawing attention to what we drink, how we do it and with whom. To cherish such intimate moments of communion. This was my first attempt and chance to do my version of endurance performance. I was here, present during opening hours giving one to one spoken word performances. That was a new experience for me too. I took a huge jump and realised I am putting myself in a fully vulnerable state. Yet, the purpose to share the poem as a form of gift and keeping eye contact were paramount to present a possible interaction, which can be intimate even at times of discomfort. My comfort was very tied to the feelings and emotions I encountered in an individual. I remember that upon offering a spoken word performance a state of shock and disbelief was induced. Yet, interestingly, there was hardly anyone who refused. The air of options to be breathed to expand the lungs with an alchemy of words, motivation and support facilitate a pathway to another world. This event was strictly a storytelling competition so I could not incorporate other elements of the set. Yet, I had another wonderful opportunity to create and tell a story about the connection between the land, cows and humans in the context of food, here, butter, tying it though to my ‘Logic.Exchange’ set. I lived at the top of Shandon street, nearby The Butter Museum. I decided to visit the museum since butter was a big part of the story. I found out a fountain of useful information and was pleasantly surprised with some fun facts. To my astonishment at the time when I was there, an elderly man showed how to churn butter and asked other people to help him churn the cream he brought from his farm. His name was Dan. A very cheerful man. Afterwards I talked to him and told him that I am preparing the story for a storytelling competition. He was very excited and decided to give me a card, which he signed. I enclose it below. I like how he signed it, The Butter Maker! This was my last engagement with the Gab as life has taken me in different directions and other places. I am very grateful for this adventure. They soon found themselves in a dairy. Hopping and jumping around (frogs will be frogs, after all), they jumped into a milk pail half full of cream. At first, they were both thrilled. They had never tasted anything so delicious! They drank and drank. Soon (after some contented frog belches followed by much giggling) they were both full-bellied and getting just a bit sleepy. “Time to get out of here and head back to the swamp for some shut-eye,” burped the first frog. But there was a problem. They’d had no trouble hopping in ... but how to hop out? The inside of the pail was too slippery to climb, and there was nothing on which they could place their feet for traction to get up a good hopping distance ... or any hopping distance at all. The awful reality dawned on them: they were trapped. Frantic, they began to thrash about, their little frog feet scrabbling for a foothold on the elusive, slippery curve of the pail’s edge. Finally, the second frog cried out, “It’s no use! We’re doomed, my brother! Let us save what dignity we have left and die here like frogs, with our eyes facing our homeland!” The first frog cried out to stop him. “No! We should never give up! When we were tadpoles, which of us would ever have dreamed that some day we would emerge from the water and hop about on land? Swim on, and pray for a miracle!” The second frog eyed his brother sadly and said, “There are no miracles in the life of a frog, brother. Farewell.” And so saying, he turned his face in the direction of the swamp, gave a sigh, and slowly sank out of sight. But the first frog refused to give up. He continued to swim. He swam and he swam in ridiculous, pointless, useless, futile circles, hoping against hope for a miracle. Fired by adrenaline, he paddled mightily ... yet his brother’s dying words clutched at his thoughts, even more insidious than the growing fatigue that tugged at his weakening muscles. Was my brother right?, he thought desperately. Am I a fool? Are there no miracles in the life of a frog? Finally, he could swim no more ... and with a great cry of anguish, he stopped paddling and let go, ready at last to face his fate like a frog. But something odd then happened ... or rather, didn’t happen. He didn’t sink. He just sat exactly where he was. That was the case with Fota Arboretum and Gardens. I ended up here by ‘chance’ and as I was discovering this land I felt an increasing urge to continue exploring the first set Safety.Sanctuary.Set of Web. of my Language of Life:Language of Humanity project. The moment I saw what used to be an orangery I already knew this would be the next place of my shelter. I was really glad after a meeting with the head gardener as he was ‘grilling’ me to ensure we are ethically on the same page. He was really interested in protecting the place and wanted to ensure I would be a part of the ecosystem. We were on the same page. The time frame was agreed. He asked me many times if I was sure I wanted to go ahead with it at the time of cold and possibly rain (but there is always a high chance of that). The other amazing gardeners rushed to meet me and did not hide their thoughts that I must be a mad person to be willing to spend a whole, cold month in here. It was cold, yes, but it did not rain! There was drizzle here and there but there was practically no rain throughout the whole month. She smiled and asked if I knew that processions took place on these grounds back in the day. I should have concluded it but I actually did not know much about this place except for feeling intense pull and resonating with it. She handed in a photograph to me. At the back it says ‘Quarantore Devotions to celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi at South Presentation Convent, 1952’. I must confess I felt somewhat strange. However, for logistical reasons it was difficult. I was talking to Future Orchard Cork what could be planted instead and Geraldine suggested comfrey. What wonderful news it was when it turned out she actually had it in plans to plant comfrey so it was handy. She still did not know the precise location and I was to find out later.
